The prospect of distance learning or students continuing their educational growth and development at home can be overwhelming. Right now, all of our email inboxes, traditional and social media are full of ideas and suggestions of what to do when your kids are home 24/7. This page came about because many LCMCS community members were sharing their “homeschool” ideas on our Facebook page and other social media. In an effort to create a centralized place for ease of use and reference, we created this resource with the ability for community members to suggest additions and ideas. This is a dynamic resource that will grow and change in the coming weeks and months.
A word of caution: this page is not intended to be a complete or exhaustive list but rather a good starting point for families looking for ideas & support for their kids continued growth and learning at home. Moreover, we are looking through our Montessori lens and sharing what we believe will be useful to you and support your child’s continued development and work in a Montessori informed way.
We encourage you to review the general advice from our school staff about learning at home (see the black button on this page) and to read this parent handbook that was generously shared with us and we adapted for our families to help prepare them for the weeks ahead.

From Katherine Elliott Kammeyer via the LCMCS Facebook Group:
Fender is offering 3 months of free online lessons. I signed myself up for folk guitar (I bought a guitar in college and have been hoping to learn for a decade) and Ella for ukulele (but I can going to do the lessons, too!). You go to fender play and click the link for the free code.

OPB TV is shifting to all educational programming during school hours (mostly seems to be oriented to mid-elementary or older, but it’s a mix).
Also, local music and puppetry celebrity Red Yarn is doing free virtual shows every couple of days on Facebook Live: https://redyarnproductions.com/calendar/

Earliest decodable readers…
Try to ensure that the student has been introduced to the irregular words and each letter sound in the book before they attempt decoding the book.
Irregular words are words that don’t sound the way you would expect, given their spelling.
